Macon has 156,711 residents, placing it fourth out of 664 cities, a consolidated city-county in the U.S. state of Georgia, it is located 85 miles (137 km) southeast of Atlanta near the fall line of the Ocmulgee River and near Georgia’s geographical center, thus earning its nickname “The Heart of Georgia.”
