2022 Nissan Altima Loss in Value Case Study (PDF)
As a mid-size sedan, the Nissan Altima fills a void between less desirable and more desirable alternatives, but it doesn’t have any strong selling points to make it irresistible. Instead, the Altima is distinguished by its attractive styling, comfortable cabin, and surprising athleticism. Nissan’s 2022 Altima, for example, comes with a variable-compression turbocharged engine. This technology has been developed by Nissan for more than a decade, and it delivers power like a V6 engine while delivering fuel economy like a four-cylinder. However, it can only be had with the sporty SR trim level and front-wheel drive. Honestly, it fails to live up to its potential both in power and efficiency.
The Altima has a standard 188-hp 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that pairs with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). With premium fuel, the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder offers up to 248 horsepower and uses the CVT. The 2.5-liter engine is the only one with all-wheel drive, and Nissan touts variable-compression technology.
Based on the base four-cylinder engine, 28 mpg is claimed in the city and 39 mpg on the highway. With all-wheel drive, models can earn 26 mpg in the city and 36 mpg on the highway. The VC-Turbo engine is rated at 25 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway.
The Altima has also a standard 8.0-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capabilities, along with a customizable main menu and volume and tuning knobs on the sound system.
