What to Expect After Filing an Ohio Insurance Commissioner Complaint

Once the Ohio Department of Insurance receives your complaint, a Consumer Services Analyst will review it and may contact the insurance company on your behalf. The company has 30 days to respond to the complaint. The analyst will keep you updated on the investigation’s progress and send you a letter summarizing the outcome.

If the insurance company is found to have violated Ohio laws or regulations, the department will take corrective action as necessary. However, please note that the Ohio Department of Insurance cannot act as your legal representative or give legal advice, and they are unable to resolve disputes related to factual disagreements or claims of negligence.

Types of Complaints Handled

You can file complaints related to:

  • Issues with auto, home, health, or life insurance policies.
  • Disputes with insurance companies or agents over claim denials or policy terms.
  • Unresolved issues after attempting to resolve them with the insurer directly.
