Motor Vehicle Registrations 2008-2012
There are more new vehicles, and more older vehicles, on the road.
Do you know where to find the parts you’ll need for vehicles of all ages?
The number of motor vehicles registered for use in the United States has risen again. After declining in 2009 and 2010, the number rose in 2011 and in 2012. According to the most recent Highway Statistics released by the Federal Highway Administration, the number in 2012 stood at 24502 million.
Industry observers expect that number to keep growing. When reporting findings from Experian Automotive’s Vehicles in Operation (VIO) market analysis last November, Marty Miller, senior manager for Experian Automotive, said, “During the recession, new vehicle sales dropped, causing challenges for after-market companies. However, the recent uptick in new vehicle sales, combined with more aging vehicles on the road, means these challenges will only be in the short term. As these new vehicles begin to age and enter the prime aftermarket repair years, growth opportunities will rebound”
