The Model A was the 2nd big success for Ford, following in the wake of the Model T. It was first produced in 1927 and was available in just 4 standard colors. The Model A has a water-cooled, 4-cylinder engine that provided 40 hp and its top speed was around 60-65 mph. The transmission was a traditional 3-speed manual unit with a single speed for reverse. It was the first Ford to use a standard set of controls for the driver with clutch & brake pedals, gearshift and throttle. The Model A also featured a visual fuel gauge, and optional rearview mirror and was the first car to have safety glass in the windshield.
