Q: What is a vehicle Title?

A: To prove ownership of a vehicle, the Georgia Motor Vehicle Division issues a paper document called “Georgia Certificate of Title”. When a title is issued, it is mailed or an electronic notification is sent to the first lienholder or security interest holder. If there are no lienholders or security interest holders, the title is mailed to the registered owner of the vehicle.

Q: What Information does a Vehicle Title Contain?

A: The front title document lists the following information:

    • The owner or owners  of the vehicle including address
    • The description of the vehicle, year, make, model, color, VIN etc.
    • The lien-holder information
    • Title meta info (number, issue date etc.)

The rear of the title has spaces that facilitate the transfer of ownership of the vehicle from a private seller to to another private seller or licensed dealer as well as dealer only section for reassignment. There are a total of 3 reassignment sections on the rear of a Georgia title.
