2022 Ford Bronco Loss in Value Case Study (PDF)
The Ford Bronco is an iconic SUV that made its debut in 1966 and gained a reputation as a rugged, go-anywhere vehicle. After a 25-year hiatus, the Bronco returned to the market in 2020, and it has quickly become one of the most sought-after vehicles of today. With its all-terrain prowess, nostalgic design, and modern features, the Bronco is a top contender in its class and a favorite among off-road enthusiasts and casual drivers alike.
The Ford Bronco’s turbo four-cylinder and turbo V6 engines provide sufficient power for daily driving with a quick-shifting 10-speed automatic transmission. The V6 option offers extra power and quicker acceleration, but emergency stopping distances are longer than desired. However, the independent front suspension allows for confident and stable steering at freeway speeds, making long-distance drives more comfortable.
As a newer vehicle with an automatic transmission, we were looking forward to better fuel economy from the Bronco. EPA-estimated fuel economy for four-cylinder Broncos ranges from 17 to 20 mpg combined. The combined fuel economy for six-cylinder models ranges from 17 to 19 mpg.
The Ford Bronco offers a range of standard and optional driver assistance features, such as adaptive cruise control and exterior cameras. For off-road driving, the Bronco also has a suite of useful driver aids that can be individually controlled or automatically deployed through different drive modes. However, some of the systems, such as the adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist, have poor tuning. The infotainment system is modern and user-friendly, with easy integration for Android and Apple smartphones. However, the stereo in our test vehicle struggled to mask road noise at higher speeds.
