What to Look for on a Test Drive?

You just cannot purchase a car without test driving it first to see whether it is in good driving conditions.  The way a car deal goes is that a salesperson first gives you a tour of the car and explains all that it offers, along with all that it lacks. You must then perform an inspection like a responsible buyer, and that inspection should normally lead to a test drive.  Taking the car for a test drive is very beneficial as it allows you to evaluate the car in peace and really focus on all the minor details of the driving experience.

  • Check the Seating

If you are going to invest in a used car, you must make sure that the seating is comfortable, so that your commutes do not lead to backaches. Before you start the ignition, get behind the wheels and find your ideal driving positions.  This will involve moving the seats back and forth and finding all the adjustable controls and seeing if they are working. Finding your ideal driving position is important because if you are unable to do that, then you may be looking to spend money on a car in which you are not comfortable. Furthermore, make sure that the passenger seats are also comfortable.

  • Check the Cargo Space

If you are going to invest in a car that you will use often, then make sure that it is practical and offers good utility.  This involves checking the space in the rear. If you plan to go on long road trips, then it will be more practical to invest in a car that can hold all your belongings. Moreover, check whether the specific car has enough space to accommodate your essential items.

  • Drive on different Routes

When driving the car, you must ideally test it on three main types of road conditions, urban spots, freeways, and sharp turns.  Each route will provide a different challenge for the car, and it will test its capability in different ways. This will give you an idea of whether you can really use the vehicle as your primary source of transport.  If the car doesn’t handle well on either of the conditions, then you may have to reconsider your options.

  • Check for Interior Wear and Mileage

When you glance into the interior of the vehicle, make sure to look at each damage and compare that to the mileage that the car is showing. If you find that the interior has plenty of wear, and yet the car is only showing 90,000 miles, this is suspicious as it is an indication that the previous owner may have tampered with the odometer.

  • Check Steering Wheel Slop

What this means is that you want to make sure that the steering wheel is responsive. To test for this, you can start by moving the steering wheel left and right and judge whether the vehicle is darting in a zigzag pattern with the same corresponding speed as your steering wheel.
